Sometimes all it takes is a few small changes to go from "...meh" to "WOW!" Whether you're just starting your day or taking a break with an afternoon pick-me-up, here’s a simple checklist to help turn your coffee bar into your favorite spot in the house.
Bonus! There’s a free vintage-style coffee poster included at the end to help you get started!
How to Use This List
This isn't a huge renovation project that will take forever. It's just five easy, budget-friendly things you can add to elevate your coffee bar and make it feel more personal, while adding just a touch of vintage flair. Try one, or try them all. The goal is to make your coffee space feel more like your space.
5 Simple Additions for Your Coffee Bar
1. A Mug That Sparks Joy
Let’s be honest. Most of us have a favorite mug. For me, it’s this quirky little ceramic mug I picked up in Madrid with a simple illustration of a taxi on it. It’s nothing fancy, but I swear my coffee tastes better in it. My wife rolls her eyes when I say that, but I stand by it. It always brings me back to my time living in Madrid whenever I use it.
Having one or two mugs that make you happy or remind you of something special is an underrated part of the coffee experience. Whether it’s a unique vintage find, something handmade, or just a mug with a funny quote, grab the one you love and put it on display. Or better yet, build a small collection and rotate them with the seasons.
2. Unique Containers to Hide the Chaos
No one likes looking at clutter. If your coffee area has random tea bags, sugar spilled all over the place, and half-used syrup bottles, it’s time for a quick upgrade. A few jars or labeled tins can make a huge difference. Store your beans, sugar, pods, or grounds in some kind of container that can easily hide the mess.
It doesn't have to be expensive either. Thrift stores are a great place to find something unique and add even more personality. The best part is you'll actually be able to find what you need before that first cup kicks in.
3. Time To Bring It To Life
I’m absolutely terrible when it comes to anything plant related. Luckily, I have my wife who absolutely loves plants and adds them all over our house. She has shown me that adding just one fresh element like flowers or a small plant instantly lifts the mood of your space and gives it a fresh vibe. And the best part? You can rotate it throughout the year to give it all kinds of seasonal vibes too.
Right now, we’ve got some potted herbs. They smell great, look super clean, and they are incredibly useful in the kitchen. In the winter, we swap it out for some pine tree clippings from the forest near our house and a cinnamon stick. Nothing fancy. Just something alive…or close enough.
4. Add Some Vintage Coffee Art (Free Poster Included!)
I have to say that I’m a little biased, but this is my favorite part. Adding a little piece of art to your coffee bar is one of the easiest ways to add a pop of color and give it some real personality. It helps make the space feel like a destination and not just another part of your kitchen. That print of your favorite coffee drink or a cheeky quote shows that you know your coffee and you’ve got great taste.

5. A Little Ritual Add-On
This is totally up to you, but one small thing that adds to your coffee ritual can make a big difference. A special candle, a handwritten note on a little chalk board, or even a little trinket from one of your travels can elevate your whole experience and make the space that much more special.
I tend to linger over my morning coffee. My wife always teases me about how long it takes. She’ll say, “Are you still drinking that?” and honestly... yeah. I am. I stretch that cup out like it’s a Sunday paper and savor every drop.
I also look forward to my afternoon coffee break pretty much every single day. And the funny thing is…it’s not really about the caffeine. It’s more about the ritual and the reset it provides. It gives me a moment to slow down and think about what I want to tackle in the second half of the day.
Find something that makes that moment feel like yours and gives you energy in more ways than one.
